APPRECIATION - COACH ALHAJI HARUN SESAY
There are people who enter your life for a season, and there are those who stay for a lifetime.
There are people who enter your life for a season, and there are those who stay for a lifetime. For more than 20 years, Coach Alhaji Harun Sesay has been a constant positive influence in my life and the lives of many others.
When I first met him, I was simply a young boy with a dream. I had talent, energy, and ambition, but like many young athletes, I needed guidance. I needed someone who could see beyond the player and invest in the person.
He became far more than a coach.
He became a mentor.
He became a friend.
He became a brother.
Some of my earliest memories in basketball involve learning from him. Not just learning how to play the game, but learning how to approach life. He taught me that talent alone is never enough. Discipline matters. Commitment matters. Character matters.
He challenged me when I became comfortable.
He encouraged me when I doubted myself.
He celebrated my successes but never allowed success to make me complacent. This photograph captures my very first national basketball award, a moment I was incredibly proud of. But when I look at this picture today, I don't just see an award.
I see years of sacrifice.
I see countless lessons.
I see a mentor who believed in me long before many others did.
The truth is, many of the opportunities I have experienced through basketball are built upon foundations he helped lay.Even today, after all these years, his role in my life has not changed.
He remains a sounding board when I need advice.
He remains a mentor when I need guidance.
He remains a friend when life gets difficult.
And he remains a brother whose wisdom and support continue to shape my journey.
As Beyond Basketball grows, I often reflect on the people who helped me become the man I am today. He is undoubtedly one of them.
Thank you for the lessons.
Thank you for the discipline.
Thank you for the belief.
Thank you for the countless conversations, the guidance, the honesty, and the unwavering support.
Most importantly, thank you for helping a young boy with a dream become a man with a purpose.I am forever grateful.
